In my spare time I like practising sports such as cycling, basketball, and capoeira. I also enjoy oil painting, reading about sociology and learning languages.
About Me
I strongly believe in a sustainable future driven by data. My passion for data science stems from my experience as a researcher in the field of cosmology and astrophysics. I built up my technical skills by developing software and advanced statistical methods when carrying out the analysis of sophisticated data sets e.g., supernovae, anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation, and galaxy surveys. In doing my research I gained valuable experience with High Performance Computing resources, machine learning techniques, different programming languages as well as project management, fund-raising, and languages.
Over the years my interests have grown beyond the frontiers of cosmology. I have consequently gained working knowledge in other fields. Firstly, I am highly interested in social sciences. In fact, while I was carrying out my bachelor in Physics I took several courses on sociology, history, and economy where I learnt theoretical aspects as well as research methodologies. Secondly, a few years ago I came across a couple of fields which certainly will become crucial in the years to come: precision medicine and precision farming. I am currently working on a few related Data Science projects and I can say that the accelerating inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (e.g., computer vision, machine learning techniques) in both precision medicine and precision farming will become extremely important for humanity in the next few years.
During my years in Switzerland I worked for Centre d’Appui Scolaire, a non-profit organisation, as a teacher. With this experience I realised how gratifying the work for the community can be. I also learnt a lot about working in a multidisciplinary team as well as effectively communicating with people of different backgrounds and ages.
